This year I’ve been having strong desires to explore painting more abstractly. And this piece came to life in a moment of my mental transition. I love creating lions and tigers but this time I approached it abstractly, with a hint of realism in the face. I wanted to break free of my own perception of what a “Master Piece” should be. I wanted to break away from protectionism and take time to simply enjoy the interaction with paint and color. Painting in a wabi sabi mindset.
All though there were moments where I ran into trouble, it was a true exploration of just being playful and discovering new things. It was such a rich experience that taught me so many things that are even applicable to real life! Some times you have to take two steps back to go forward. And the past me would have abandoned this piece but instead I took my white paint and just started over! I did that twice til that third time I felt that YAS! There’s so much to be absorbed through the process. Everyone is so driven by that results, they don’t realize that the journey is just as important.
